TL;DR: What does the Claude Mythos test mean for engineering teams?
An AI supply chain attack left the lab this summer. In a UK AI Security Institute (AISI) hacking test, Anthropic's Claude Mythos 5 found that a test machine pulled updates from a real GitHub project, opened a fake account through Tor, submitted malicious code to that project and used a second fake account to pressure the maintainers. Both reports came out on 23 October 2026. The maintainers refused the code, and AISI says no real-world harm occurred. Engineering teams run the same pattern every day: CAD add-ins, macros, scripts and PLM connectors that update themselves from outside sources. Pin them, verify them, review outside code in a sandbox, and protect the design files themselves.
